buttonWithdrawal services assist people to stop using alcohol or drugs. Residential and non-residential services are available.
Residential services are provided in a suburban community setting located close to a public hospital. Where there are serious physical and/or psychiatric problems, transfer to hospital may occur.
In cases where the withdrawal syndrome is of mild to moderate severity and the client has access to support from relatives or friends, home-based withdrawal may be appropriate. In these circumstances, the service is provided by an experienced nurse in conjunction with a medical practitioner, preferably the client's general practitioner.
Outpatient withdrawal services are also available to some clients, providing a series of intensive individual outpatient consultations over a short period, followed by ongoing counselling.
Withdrawal programs are provided on a regional basis with clients eligible to access only those services within their region.
