About Us
The Shire of Aurukun includes much of the traditional country of the Wik, Wik Way and Kugu people. It has rare and beautiful environmental values. We, as the traditional owners, are very proud of our country. We are also proud of our traditional culture which is strong within our community.
The Aurukun Shire is a very remote area of Queensland which is starkly different to most other Queensland shires.It has outstanding potential for growth and prosperity. The community of Aurukun is located on the north-west coast of the Cape York Peninsula, 178km (2hrs 30mins) by road south of the mining town of Weipa and 811km (11hrs) from Cairns.
