About Us

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health team is part of our Family and Community Health division. The aim of the service is to promote the provision of patient-centred, high-quality, culturally appropriate health care, by all of our healthcare practitioners, across the lifespan.

Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health staff provide patient support in specialty health areas such as maternity and infant health, mental health, drugs and alcohol, chronic disease, and sexual health. They also provide an advocacy and liaison service, enabling them to act as a cultural link between health professionals, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, and patients’ carers and families. Our friendly team members are often a great first point of contact for anyone seeking information about our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health service. Health staff have a wealth of information and are there to support and help patients and their families throughout their hospital stay.

Our Social Work team are also available to provide advice, make referrals and advocate for access to services for patients, families and carers experiencing emotional and/or social issues. These may include grief and loss, aged care placements, family and domestic violence, child and family matters, financial difficulties, housing issues and more.
