Scottsdale image

Scottsdale has a rich agricultural and forestry history. Surrounded by green fields and blue mountains, its rich soil and mild climate are ideal for farming. It makes for a great base to explore the northeast region. Centrally located on King Street is Anabels of Scottsdale, a beautiful heritage homestead built in 1895 surrounded by lush, National Trust classified gardens. Anabels operates as short-stay accommodation and has a restaurant. In spring, the garden is full of wisteria, rhododendrons and camellias in full bloom. Stock up on local produce at The House Paddock, an artisan grocer, homewares and café store with quality produce, products and service. There is a range of homemade cakes, muffins and desserts, and the team who created the menu are a collective of experienced mums and people who just love to cook! The town is also home to a family-owned, boutique-style craft brewery and distillery - Little Rivers Brewing Co. Drop into the brewery for a bite to eat and to check out the latest brews. Enjoy a beer-tasting paddle or spirit flight to sample a variety of flavours. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of options nearby. Cyclists will love the Scottsdale loop, a 26km ride that takes you through farmland and forest following the Northeast Rail Trail. Walkers can take to the hills with a walk to reach the summit of Mount Stronach (5km, 2.5hours return), once at the top you are rewarded with panoramic views of Scottsdale, farms, forest and Bass Strait. Step back in time with a visit to the Springfield Tea Room for Devonshire tea, home baked goods, fabrics, gifts and a warm Amish welcome. The food here is made by the owners using their home grown produce – go prepared with cash because this farm and tearoom do not have electronic payment options. Nearby at Nabowla, 15 km west of Scottsdale, is the world-famous Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm. The farm produces the finest quality lavender flowers and lavender oil and around December and January the rolling hills of lavender fields are a spectacular sight. Scottsdale is a 1-hour drive (61km) from Launceston.
